Orthodontic mini-implants are tiny dental implants that are temporarily placed in the mouth to target teeth that may need specialized treatment without affecting the surrounding teeth. Using a special instrument, these “pins” can be quickly and comfortably placed in the jaw, often using only a topical anesthetic. During placement, you may feel some slight pressure but no pain. The “pins” provide Dr. Bhatia a fixed anchor for space closure, molar uprighting, correction of open bites and other tooth movement. With this advanced technology, Dr. Bhatia is able to treat certain complex cases and get results that otherwise may not have been accomplished without jaw surgery. Treatment usually lasts a few months, and once the desired movement has been achieved, the “pin” is removed.
